Steps to Protect Selected Content in a Word Document

•    Go to the Word document which you wish to protect from editing.

•    Tap on the Review option.

•    After that, press on the Restrict Editing option.

•    You will get the Restrict option in the protect menu.

•    Now, the Restrict Editing panel will get open on the right-hand column of the Word document.

•    Checkmark the “Allow only this type of editing in the document” section below the editing restrictions option.

•    After adding the checkmark, the pull-down menu appears below the activate option.

•    You need to check No changes option is selected or not

•    In case you wish to permit filling forms and editing, then you can choose the right option by going to the menu list.

•    You will also get the “Exceptions” button showing on display, but you will return to the previous window soon.

•    Choose a Word document which you wish to edit by pressing and pulling the mouse pointer over a text.

•    The documents which are not selected will go to the read-only section.

•    Keep pressing on the Control keys.

•    Go up and down to a Word document.

•    Once you have selected a text, return to the Restrict Editing window.

•    You will get many options by going to the Groups drop-down menu below the Exceptions option. Here are some of  the options given below:

1.    Checkmark the Everyone section to permit any other user to edit a Word document they wish to.

2.    Press on the More users option to type the username of a specific user who you wish to permit for editing a Word document.

3.    Once you have entered the username, press on the OK button and after that, checkmark the person who you wish to permit for editing a Word document.

•    Tap on the Yes button.

•    Press on the Yes, Start Enforcing Protection option.

•    Type the password for the document encryption.

•    In case you have not set any password, the Word document is vulnerable to viruses infected users.

•    You need to enter the password and after that, tap on the OK button.

•    In case you permit any particular users to edit a Word document, then you should choose the User authentication option.

•    The text which you have chosen will be placed in the brackets and highlights.

1.    Open your Ubuntu’ browser.

2.    Go to 10001 Free Fonts. You can find it online.

3.    Find the fonts you want to download.

4.    Click the ‘Download’ option to begin downloading.

5.    When prompted, select a downloading location.

Steps may vary according to the website you visited.

Downloading fonts using terminal:

1.    Open ‘Terminal.’

2.    Enter the commands for the font and website you’re using to download fonts.

3.    Download the fonts file.

4.    Mostly the files are downloaded in .zip format, extract the file with the “unzip” command.

How to view the downloaded fonts file in terminal

Before you start installing fonts with the terminal, go to the location where you have downloaded the file and copy or note down the path.

1.    Open ‘Terminal.’

2.    Now, type the command and enter the path of the font you want to install.

“sudo gnome-font-viewer [path of the font file]”

3.    Press ‘Enter’.

4.    If asked to enter the user password, type your password.

5.    Click ‘Install,’ when prompted.

The font(s) you selected will install in your Ubuntu device. This way you can install one or multiple fonts at a time.

How to install a font automatically

The font file you want to install automatically should be in TrueType font (.ttf) format. If you downloaded the fonts from the web, make sure the file is not in a zip folder. If it is in a zip folder, unzip it before proceeding.

1.    Locate to the folder where your font file is stored.

2.    Double click on the font file. This opens a window displaying the fonts style.

3.    Click the ‘Install’ or ‘Install Font’ button at the top to install the fonts.

Clicking on the button will install that fonts in your Ubuntu device.

How to install multiple fonts manually

The fonts you want to add to your Ubuntu should be in TrueType font (.ttf or .otf) format. If you downloaded the fonts from the web, make sure it is not in a zip folder. If it is in the zip folder, unzip it before proceeding.

1.    Locate to the folder where your font files are stored.

2.    Select the fonts file you want to install and move them to the ~/Directory. You’ll find the Directory in the home folder.

3.    After moving the font files, open ‘Terminal.’

4.    Type the given commands,

•    “cd/usr/local/share/fonts/truetype”

•    Then, “sudo mkdir myfonts”

If the commands fail to run, make sure you’re using the command line without quotes. The commands will create ‘myfonts’ directory to store the fonts.

5.    If asked to enter the user password, type your password.

6.    Now, enter the command “cd myfonts”.

7.    Enter “sudo cp ~/fontname.ttf.” This moves the fonts into the new directory. If you want to move all the fonts at once, enter “sudo cp ~/*.ttf” instead.

8.    Enter “sudo chown root fontname.ttf”.

9.    Type “cd”.

10.    Then “fc-cache”.

All the fonts you selected will be added to your Ubuntu system. Once the fonts are added successfully, they can be used in all the applications using fonts.

Formatting a USB drive using Ubuntu’s Disks Utility

1.    Click on the ‘Dash’ button.

2.    Type ‘disks’ into the search and begin searching.

3.    Open the ‘Disks’ from the Application results. This opens the Disks window where you’ll see all the connected devices.

4.    Click and select the USB drive you want to format from the Disk Drives list.

5.    Select the volumes of the USB drives you can select as many as you want.

6.    Click the ‘Gear’ icon at the top in the volumes section.

7.    Select ‘Format’ in the pop-out menu.

8.    A small formatting options window will prompt, select a formatting option. If you want to clean out the drive thoroughly, then don’t use Quick format.

9.    Choose a file system. Select ‘FAT’ (FAT 32) to use the USB drive in other devices also. If the Flash drive is only for use in Linux, then you can select “ext3”.

10.    Click the ‘Format’ button.

Your USB Flash drive is being formatting, wait for it to be formatted.

Formatting a USB drive using Terminal in Ubuntu

Note: In place of “sbd#’ enter the drive’s partition label of your USB drive.

1.    Launch ‘Terminal.’

2.    Type “lsblk” command in the terminal window and press ‘Enter.’ This will show a list of all the storage devices connected to Ubuntu.

3.    Find the USB drive you want to format in the device list.

4.    Type “sudo unmount /dev/ sbd#” command to unmount the drive’s partition.

5.    To erase all the data of the drive, use the following commands according to your Ubuntu’s version.

•    “sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sbd# bs=4k && sync”

•    In Ubuntu 16.04 & newer: “sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sbd# bs=4k status=progress && sync”

6.    Now, type “sudo fdisk /dev/sbd#” command and press ‘Enter’ to make a new partition.

7.    Press the ‘O’ button to make an empty table and ‘N’ button to make a new partition.

8.    Enter the partition size.

9.    Use the ‘W’ button to edit or close the table.

10.    Again type “lsblk” command to view the newly created partition.

11.    Type “sudo mkfs . vfat /dev/sbd#” to format the volume in FAT32 format.

Your USB Flash drive is being formatting, wait for it to be formatted. Once the format completes, type “sudo eject /dev/sbd#” to eject the drive safely.

How to format Hard drive in Ubuntu

1.    Click on the ‘Dash’ button.

2.    Type ‘disks’ into the search and begin searching.

3.    Open the ‘Disks’ from the Application results.

4.    Select the drive to format from the Disk Drives list. Be careful while selecting the volume, as everything from the hard drive you choose will be deleted.

5.    Click the ‘Gear’ icon at the top in the volumes section.

6.    Select ‘Format Partition’ in the pop-out menu.

7.    Open the ‘Type’ drop down and choose a file system, FAT, Ext4, or NTFS.

8.    Type a name in the ‘Name:’ field.

9.    Open the ‘Erase’ dropdown and select a formatting option.

10.    Click the ‘Format’ button.

Clicking the ‘Format’ button may begin the formatting process, so check everything once more. Confirm you want to format, if prompted. The drive starts formatting, wait for it to be formatted. Once the formatting completes, click the ‘Mount’ button below the volumes graph to mount the drive.

Tips: If Disk utility fails to format the drive or to show an error, you can use ‘Gparted’ to format, resize partitions, or create a new partition.

6.    The HandBrake installer file will start downloading.
